Vintage Anglepoise Magnifier Herbert Terry Magnifying Lens c.1950 Pre-owned vintage Herbert Terry Anglepoise magnifying viewing glass c.1950, in excellent condition.
Genuine Anglepoise magnifier, manufacturer’s stamp on column base, complete with all original parts included.
Original grey hammered paint finish on column and base.Circular heavy steel base with elevated central shaft, square aperture to underside with column attachment nut.The articulated springs are one below with adjustable screw and two above.The elbow joint features adjustable knob.The magnifying element is a single piece of good quality synthetic glass encased in a strong black plastic frame. The magnifier is attached to the column with adjustable ball pin joint stamped ‘GERMANY’.
Carwardine’s 1930’s articulated Anglepoise design appears to be like a predecessor of the robotic arm.
This rare Anglepoise magnifier was recently acquired at an estate sale in Cornwall.The item has been cleaned by hand retaining some of its original patina to keep its authentic vintage appearance.
The is a certain beauty in this Anglepoise, it was used in a workshop and has all the signs of a useful life, a workhorse. It’s design and manufacture are excellent, built with uncompromising quality to last for years, free from inbuilt obsolescence, it can still be used today.
Pre-owned vintage Herbert Terry Anglepoise magnifying viewing glass, in excellent condition.Gracefully aged with minor signs of use; surface scuffs marks, some areas of worn paint revealing aluminium frame; mid way rear column has a small dip on right angle edge, not a dent, nothing serious; areas of worn paint with surface tarnish, no pitting, to top; base underside is raw unpainted metal with surface tarnish; magnifying element with surface scratches, but still usable.Magnifying casing is in excellent condition with minor scuffs to exterior, nothing serious. Ball pin joint adjustment leaver is strong and secure, works fine.The above quirks are acquired marks of distinction, the result of over half a century of lived history, adding an intangible value to this vintage piece.Column struts in excellent condition with no dents and no buckling.Column moves and rotates fine.Springs are complete and strong with minor signs of tarnish.Structurally sound and complete.---DimensionsFully extended 29.5in - 75cmBase diameter 8.5in - 21.6cmMagnifier housing 8.25in x 5.25in - 21cm x 13.5cm----Weight unpacked 8Kg.
