Beautiful vintage specs in near pristine condition. The lenses are non-prescription, clear & unscratched and the frames are in great shape. Green lenses & side shields. The frame & temple tips are in great shape, frame has nice fine detailed dots all around (not sure you'll be able to see those in these pics, it is fine detail). Temple tips & nose pads are like new. Clearly these were seldom if ever worn. The temple tips are quite flexible to accommodate a range of sizes. The side shields have slight scratching at the points right where they fold in to each other, which is minor & likely unavoidable given the design. There is slight loss of chrome on the left side shield, which is shown in one of the pics. Overall these are in fantastic condition given their age.
As for markings, the lenses have the intertwined 'AO' followed by a 'M'. There are '48's top and bottom of the side shields, and '48L' bottom of the left lens frame, '48R' on the right. '7's on the temples. There is something stamped on the right nose pad arm that's tough to make out ... '7026' possibly??? I have not been able to find a lot of solid info on these ... any tips would be welcomed!
The green box included with these glasses has 'Made in U.S.A.' stamped over in a half-a**ed manner (so it can still be seen), and 'Made in Canada' on the end. In those days (1930s is the vintage most seem to attribute these to???), a number of companies imported parts from the U.S. and assembled them in Canada to avoid duties - likely what was happening here. In fact I'm not really sure that this particular box matches up with these particular glasses, I have a few pairs (similar or identical) from the same source & it's conceivable that they wound up in different boxes over the years. I have included a picture of a red box that is NOT included with these glasses, in case the info means anything to anyone (if so please let me know!). Should it become clear that the red box is appropriate for these glasses rather than the green one, then I will include it instead. Otherwise, you get the green one, and not the red.
There is also a picture posted of a couple of box inserts that also are NOT INCLUDED with these glasses, but are shown for informational purposes (I will include a photocopy). Again, I can't be 100% sure that this info correlates with these exact glasses, but it would certainly seem to. The insert describes the 'Super Armorplate Calobar Lenses' as follows: 1. They give greater resistance to impact from chips, flying particles and other severe impact hazards. 2. They absorb the invisible yet dangerous ultraviolet and infrared rays. 3. They cut down visible light to a point most desirable for comfortable vision.
You should be able to make out most of what's on the green box - the sticker reads 'F5149WM' ' 49 24' & '7'.
Stamped on the red box is 'F5149 48x24 7CC 6 CVE MED CAL SAP L8'.
Thanks for looking, please let me know if there are any questions.
