Vintage Bill Graham Winterland Productions Staff Hat For Sale
Offered exclusively here is a great promotional item left over from Bill Graham’s days as a rock and roll promoter in San Francisco, California. These black baseball-style hats say “Bill Graham’s Winterland Productions, with a big yellow sun in the center and the words “San Francisco” on the reverse. Graham, of course, was the operator of the famous Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland in San Francisco, and the Fillmore East in New York, in addition to producing numerous concerts nationwide at other venues. He died in a helicopter accident in the early1990s, marking the end of an era in San Francisco music.
Winterland Productions – named after the famous San Francisco venue – was formed in the early 1970s by Graham and a partner as the merchandising arm of Graham’s rock and roll empire. The company originally produced the famous screen-printed shirts for the Grateful Dead, then branched out to handle the merchandising for Journey and the Steve Miller Band, and ultimately did t-shirt printing and merchandising for many other groups, venues, and events. The company was sold after Graham’s death and no longer exists under that name.
These hats come from a small batch unearthed from a warehouse find. They are absolutely original; according to the info I received, the logo was designed in the early 1970s and the hats themselves were produced in limited quantity in about 1987 or so, while Graham was still alive, as staff items for Winterland Productions employees and staff. I am informed that they were never sold to the public. Although more than 20 years old, they are unused and in perfect original condition. These are a GREAT item for fans of the Fillmore and Winterland, San Francisco rock music, Bill Graham, or 1960s rock poster collectors. GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT FOR ANY FAN OF SAN FRANCISCO MUSIC!!! NOT AVAILABLE ELSEWHERE.
