This is a handsome and powerful hand made sterling silver and obsidian bolo tie by master silversmith, Carlos Diaz. The medallion is just GORGEOUS, in the form of an arrowhead with the shield-shaped sterling housing the bezel set obsidian stone. The sterling tips are typical Native American style and the tie is braided black leather with just enough wear to give it a vintage feel. A superb piece, MUCH better than my photos!
Diaz was born in Columbia and apprenticed to his uncle as a silversmith
at a young age. Diaz apprenticed to the master Parisian silversmith
Gaston Avenel and then worked in Ecuador for many years making sacred
objects out of sterling. Diaz moved to the USA in 1953 and opened his
own shop in 1958 in Tuscon Arizona where he still makes fine jewelry
