COLLECTIBLE VINTAGE WALKING EGYPTIANCAT FIGURINE BY FREEMAN-MCFARLIN POTTERY SIGNED ANTHONY USA #123
Freeman-McFarlin Pottery began in the mid-1940s as a partnership between Gerald McFarlin and Maynard Anthony Freeman.Gerald operated McFarlin Potteries in El Monte California since 1927 and was joined by Anthony after WWII. Most popular items from Freeman-McFarlin were the slip-cast earthenware sculptures of various animals; horses, dogs, cats, mice, coyotes, giraffes, owls, ducks and more, produced in a wide variety of colored glazes. Anthony signature is commonly found on pieces he designed, along with other designers such as Kay Finch, Rutledge, Hetrick and Wright. In 1968 Freeman McFarlin opened a second factory in San Marcos California. In the late sixties Gerald McFarlin sold his interest in the company. Freeman sold the remainder of the company to International Multifoods in 1972. In 1975 the El Monte factory closed and operations were consolidated at the San Marcos plant. Hagen-Renaker acquired all Freeman-McFarlin Pottery operations in 1980 and operated the factory to 1986.
The featured item represents a pottery cat figurine that measures approximately 6 1/4" from thefloor to thetip of ears, 9 3/4"tall from the floor to thetip of tail and 8" long measured from the back feet to face.
Thesculpture depicts a walkingEgyptian cat in white glossy glaze and olive green eyes and same color shadeson the ear drums andedges, tip of tail andhere and therethe body. The bottom is inscribed with "Anthony" signature, ®, mold number 123 and USA. The piece was designed by Mr Anthony himself. Not quite sure of the exact year of production but I believe it dates from mid century to late 60's?
The item comes in very good condition for its age with no big cracks or repairs but a small chip on the back left paw. Maybe some other minor flaws but nothing significant to detract form its beauty. Might need a bit of cleaning.
The cat is simply amazing and gracious with real character and charm. It will be a precious addition to any collection and a super cute display for any place in your home, office or waiting area. It will be the best gift for any cat lover!
