Vintage Celluloid Windup - \"Cheery Chef\" - Occupied Japan - 1940\'s:

Mechanical figure of celluloid chef. Approximately 5\" tall. All celluloid figure of rotund little chef. Chef\'s wearing a cook\'s uniform consisting of blue pants, white cook\'s coat with gold buttons and white chef\'s hat. Chef\'s arms are attached with elastic which has stretched during years of storage. Chef looks like he\'s about to deliver a plate full of a fresh entree that he\'s just cooked up as he holds a plate in his right hand (refer to photos). Very cheerful expression on his face. Figure is embossed on the back of the white coat with the words \"MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN\". I\'ve held the figure up to a strong light and cannot discern any dents, splits or cracks in the celluloid (see photos) - in great original condition. This toy did not come to me with a key however I tested the motor with a key from another toy to confirm that the windup motor works. When wound the chef moves forward then turns and moves in a new direction. The windup motor is attached to a pink tin base (see photos) which is attached to the celluloid body at four points. I note that one of the connections is loose however the others are all intact and holding nice and snug. Does not affect the operation or appearance, just wanted to mention it.A great addition to a collection of Occupied Japan celluloid toys or as an accent to a display of vintage chef memorabilia!If you have questions please review the photos, which are made a part of the description, or contact me prior to placing a offer.
