Vintage Cough Drop Tin, Kibbe Bros Springfield, Mass Tin By Somers Bros Brooklyn For Sale
We continue offering items from a consignment that have been in a Southwestern New Hampshire family for years, as we have now discovered back into the first half of the 19th century. My consignor explains; "To the best of my knowledge my family were primarily farmers in Dublin, NH. There were several generations living on the farms at the same time. Farm income was supplemented by various means. Hiram Carey was the Dublin carriage driver for Mark Twain and my Grandmother was a seamstress who also made costumes for the likes of Amelia Earhart and Joseph Linden Smith during their stays in Dublin. Though there may not have been a lot of money to purchase luxuries' or non essential items sometimes the family was given small things for either payment or in appreciation. My mother and grandmother were founders of a local button club and since my grandmother was a seamstress who made costumes for the Dublin Art Colony plays many of their special collected buttons were remnants of other peoples' purchases."
We have just picked up four more boxes of buttons, some loose in bags, many on "themed" and classification cards and quite a few on invitations or display cards associated with Button Club meetings or shows over the last 70 years. In the past I have removed the buttons from many of the smaller cards and "Art" cards that had 3 or 4 sometimes only 1 button. In the future to save time pulling buttons and later trying to find individual buttons in a box full of others and to eliminate the guilt associated with throwing one of the ladies' creations into the recycling bin, I will be offering many as I find them. If you prefer not to receive the extra "art" just let me know and I'll just ship the buttons.
