This listing is for an early Chicos Spanish Peanuts Country Store Counter Jar with its Tin Lid (orginal paint around rim)and Embossed Tin Base. The Curtiss Candy Co. was founded in 1916 by Otto Schnering in the Chicago, Ill. area. The company was a maker of Baby Ruth & Butterfingers candy bars. This beautifuljar with Cris-Cross Lines around jarwas especially made for their Chico Spanish Peanuts, circa 1920. The Tin stand is embossed on all sides "Curtiss Chicos Spanish Peanuts-5 cents",there are 2 holes in the Tinfront at bottom, not sure why.The clear glass counterjar has typical bubbles found in old glass, measures from top oflid to stand bottomend to end 11 1/4"Tall x 8 1/2"Square bottom base. The bottom of the jar has a large dip in the center, reads "Curtis Candy Co. Chicago- Mechanical and Design Pats Pend." The heavyGlassjar isin excellent condition with no chips/cracks. The jar/Painted Black handled Tin Lid & base are missing paint(gone when I bought it).
