Vintage Diamond Brooch In Platinum Setting - 18.65 Carats:
For your consideration is an exceptional vintage diamond brooch in platinum setting.
Total carats approximately 18.65.
See photos and scan of original appraisal. The original appraisal will ship with the brooch. The appraisal is handwritten; here is my interpretation of what it reads:
"Diamond platinum pin set with 14 baguettes, weight of 2.5 carats.175 round diamonds weight approximately 16.15 carats. Bow design with flexible drops.
All diamonds modern cut, good quality." Signed by Lee Runsdorf.
The intricate bow design features 175 round diamonds totaling 16.15 carats and 14 baguettes totaling 2.5 carats, for a grand total carat weight of about 18.65 carats.
The piece is about 3” long by about 2” wide at its widest point. It has an overall weight of approximately 37.5 grams or 1.3 ounces.
In addition to the pin fastener, it also has a loop attachment so that it can be worn as a necklace (see close-up photo ).
Brooch was purchased in New York City in 1979 from the front display window of Glasser Becker Runsdorf. It was my mother's and I inherited it. It has never been modified and over the decades has sat in a safe deposit box. It was worn only once at the time of purchase and then safed for 34 years.
I do not know the manufacturer or designer and there are apparently no identifying stamps or markings on the piece itself.
Original appraisal value in 1979 dollars was $13,500, which would equate to roughly $42,000 dollars in 2013.Item is also available for sale by other channels concurrently with this sale and should it sell before this sale ends seller has right to terminate sale at any time.
