Vintage Elgin Day-date Diver W/patina,all Ss Case,tropic Band,fhf 909 Mvmt,runs:
This rarely seen vintage Elgin day-date dive watch with black 19 mm genuine Tropic strap is beautifully made and comfortable to wear. The matte black "T Swiss Made T" signed dial is in near pristine condition, free of any visible scratching, tool marks or defects. The original tritium on the dial, which is fully intact and emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a warm and inviting golden buttermilk hue. The original tritium on the hands no longer emits a glow and has aged to a shade darker than the dial markers. The subtle contrast in patina between the dial and hands looks great in my humble opinion. The deep orange seconds hand is vibrant, giving the dial a wonderful energy. The Rolex 1655 Explorer like bezel, which rotates offerirectionally, shows wear but is in lovely overall condition. The all stainless steel case is in wonderful condition, free of any significant dents or dings and free of any noticeable signs of oxidation. The case still retains its original brushed satin finish. The outside of the case back is stamped "ELGIN" and "ALL STAINLESS STEEL SWISS" while the inside of the case back is stamped "ELGIN SWITZERLAND" followed by "M 280 Y" and "909 - 5004." While the integrity of the crystal is intact I would recommended replacing it given the scratching/gouging and the small below the surface crack between the 30 and 35 minute mark.
The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "ELGIN" stamped gilt finish FHF 909 automatic movement with quickset day and date functions is exceptionally clean. After winding the original non-screwdown "E" crown 30 full revolutions the movement had a healthy power reserve of approximately 37 hours. During this time the watch ran nearly 5 minutes fast per hour. Although this watch runs strong and the day and date functions work as they should, considering that it is over 40 years old, runs fast and given that there are no signs that this watch has ever been serviced (no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or movement), a complete overhaul is suggested.
This watch measures approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm. The black 19 mm genuine "MOD. DEP. SWISSMADE" Tropic strap with signature "ACIER" buckle is in excellent condition, pliable and free of any cracking or defects.
Given the vintage nature of this watch, that it is running a bit fast and considering that it has likely never been serviced, there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. A full overhaul is recommended to keep this watch running strong. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.

***********While the date and day roll over automatically as they should and this watch runs strong with a healthy power reserve of approximately 37 hours, it does run nearly 5 minutes fast per hour. It appears that this watch has never been serviced, so a full overhaul is
