Vintage Glazed Pottery
Folk Art Ring Flask
Small Faces Decoration
Loops for Rope

For Your Folk Art Pottery Collection-Flask2

Details

  • Description: A nice vintage folk art pottery ring flask. The flask has two loops near to the top where a rope or twine can be introduced to carry the flask. The water ring flasks has a round spout on one side. The flask is also decorated with four small figures on both sides right under the loops on the body itself. These look like rabbits with ears or funny looking humans with hair. All four faces have their mouth open and round. They all have noses, and eyes. We are not certain what the pottery type is, but one of the faces, which is slightly damaged, shows redware. However, we are not certain if redware is used for the entire flask or just for sculpting the faces. The piece has beautiful glazing with greenish brown color and two darker bands near the loops. The piece is equipped with a rope for carrying it. A beautiful folk art piece to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

  • Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime in the mid to late 20th century.

  • Origin: Purchased at an estate sale n southern New Jersey.

  • Size: The piece is ~10 1/2\" in diameter and ~12\" high including the spout. The piece weighs about 3 pounds.

  • Maker: Unknown.

  • Marks: Unmarked.

  • Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very nice and unusual piece of folk art pottery having a very nice and elaborate design. This piece would display very well in any collection of folk art pottery or could be used as a decorative element around your home.

  • Condition: The flask is in very good condition with no cracks, hairlines, crazing, or repairs. The piece is obviously handmade and looks great. It does have a chip on one of the faces which we show in the last photo. As we indicated above this chip shows color of redware under the glaze. However, we are not certain if redware is used for the entire flask or just for sculpting the faces. Therefore, we are uncertain what type of pottery is used to make the flask itself. The piece also has glazing defects to the surface, which are to be expected for such a piece of primitive folk are pottery such as uneven spots, pops, slubs, areas where the glaze did not fully flow, and unglazed spots. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty of the piece and for additional condition information.
