Vintage Gerber Mark Ii Early 1969 Vietnam Era Mk Ii Knife Original Un-altered For Sale
Offered here is a 1969 Gerber Mark II Combat Knife, serial number 11382 with it's original sheath. The knife itself is in near mint condition with no signs of actual use but has probably been carried at some point due to signs of handling of the Sheath. The Web Belt Hook on the sheath shows signs on the right side of missing paint and "nibbling" & scratching probably due to twisting or carelessness in removing from a web belt. But overall the sheath is in excellent solid condition. The Factory Handle Paint is 100% and the blade has its ORIGINAL FACTORY FINAL FINISH and factory edge......This knife HAS NOT been re-polished, it is FACTORY. This listing is for knife number 11382 ONLY and not for the other two knives shown in picture, these are for comparison only to show all three of these knives have the EXACT same Factory Finish, and all three being numbered very close to one another. ( as per "serial batches" etc) I do know for example that the top student from each class in Recondo School in Vietnam, won a Gerber Dagger, a Mark II no doubt, and have read accounts of this many times......were they standard blades or alittle more finished, ??? don't know, but Gerber did this for a reason, but after years & years of collecting some of the rarest examples, I can't say.
Either way and for whatever reason, I've only seen them in early examples, usually before 1970, and have personal examples in my collection from 1967, 68 & 69. Another note on these blades with a more then standard final finish, I have a example within the range of this knife (less then 100 serials) that is flat new in the original box, and the box is marked with the serial number and EXP above it. I have to believe that the EXP stands for Extra Polish. Just this collectors opinion. But either way, the knife listed here, serial 11382 is a super Vietnam Era Gerber MkII.
