Vintage German Paper Scale Balance By Louis Schopper Leipzig:

This is an antique quadrant pendulum scale for testing the weight of paper. Manufactured by Louis Schopper in Leipzig, Germany.

The weighing range is 0-100 lbs. and the scale indicates directly the ream weight of 480 and 500sheets of paper of size 24 X 36 inch, using a template sample of 2 X 4 inch. A hook is mounted on the short arm of a lever and a pointer on the long arm. Once the template paper is in position on the fine wire hook, the long arm swings upwards to balance the load and the indicator points to the scale, giving the weight in units of lb/ream. Includes ametal 2 x 4 inch template and its originalvelvet lined case.

Scale has the number 42823 and "Sole Agents for U.S.A. and Canada Testing Machines, Inc. New York" engraved on back.

Louis Schopper was a skilled instrument maker that created his factory in Leipzig on August 11,1881.
