This is a remarkable find. The helmet is a 1948 Pith Helmet issued to US troops for uniform wear in the tropics. I can find no evidence that the helmet has ever been worn. The original sizing tag is in place and in very good condition. The chin strap doesn\'t look like it\'s every been moved, much less worn. There are no sweat stains on the helmet or on the sweat band. The sweat band itself seems to be a little brittle, but there are no visible tears or cracks. There are a couple of very faint smudges on the outside of the helmet that don\'t show up in the pics and will likely clean right off. The USMC Eagle Globe and Anchor is of World War One origin and is in amazing shape. I\'m a Marine Corps combat vet and I collect Marine uniforms and I don\'t have an Eagle Globe and Anchor from that era that is as nice as this one, but I\'m leaving this one where it is because it\'s likely been on the helmet since it was new. The emblem id worth about $30 by itself, without the helmet. This helmet came from the estate of a US Marine who served in both World Wars and Korea and retired as a Sergeant Major. .
