Vintage La Crosse Fish Decoy, Wisconsin, 1930's, Spear For Sale
This is an authentic and old, estimated from the 1930's La crosse Wisconsin fish decoy. This fish decoy has a folky appeal with all the right age and patina. Typical and recognizable bar style line tie well known for La Crosse fish. This old working fish has a repair to the tail area and is heavily weighted in the bottom for stability in the free flowing back waters of the Mississippi River next to La Crosse. No doubt this fish was a good "swimmer" and was heavily used to lure game fish such as NorthernPike, Bass, Walleye and others close to the hole so the spear fisherman could make his move. Fish has black bead eyes and a sad, carved and painted mouth. Nice flow to this fish that measures approx. 5 1/4" and 1 1/4" high. Take the opportunity to preserve history from the old days and display it in your collection. Spear fishing was outlawed in the late 1930's in the La Crosse area making La Crosse fish very desirable and very hard to find. Every fish from this area is unique and hand made by spear fisherman who took pride in their craft. Check out the La Crosse spear I have up for sale tonight.
