Vintage ~marley Hodgson~ No. 37 Spectator Ghurka Bag ~khaki Twill Shoulder Purse:
This is such an awesome purse! I'm really wanting to keep it for myself, but....! Here is a ~MARLEY HODGSON~ "The Original Ghurka Bag--No. 37 Spectator."This purse is a fabulousEstate Salefind, and since I had never heard ofMarley Hodgson leather gear, Idid an online search, andWow...how impressed I was to read up on this company'swonderful leather products, and the story behind howthese Ghurka bagsgot started.Everything that bears the Ghurka mark is designed & built to provide a lifetime of use & enjoyment. Marley made his first Ghurka bag, a leather knapsack, for his young son. It is still used daily by his granddaughter. :) Each bag is individually numbered and registered, making each Ghurka bag unique.
This purse is a versatile over-the-shoulder or crossbody handbag that features all the styling of the larger Ghurka pieces in a smaller woman's purse. It is made of Khaki Twill, trimmed in Chestnut leather trim on the flap and strap. It has a leather classic post & brass tab closure. It measures 11 3/4" x 7 1/2" x 2 1/2", with an adjustable shoulder strap--having a 23" strap-drop at its longest length. It opens to 2 divided compartments on the inside, and there is a zippered pocket on the back wall. It has a very few minor spots on the fabric, as well as some minor green-transfer on the interior from its brass zipper and tab, but the purse itself shows very little wear. The leather has darkened onthe corners (see photos 7 & 8). I've taken as many pictures asI could to show you its condition, as well as its classic beauty. The leather has worn beautifully, and each scratch and mark adds to its vintage charm and history. The registered number on the flap has been worn smooth, since it's positioned right wherethe owner'sfingers opened the flap. But Itook a magnifying glass and can onlymake out a "G" in the registratioin number, which, according to their website, means the purse was produced in 1985. The rest of the wording on the flap is easily-readable and says, "The Original No. 37 Ghurka Bag...The Spectator....Marley Hodgson...MH....Registered Trademark....Finest Handmade Leather Gear....Norwalk, Connecticut, USA....Registered Bag No. This purse is shown on the Ghurka websiteon the 2nd page oftheir "Vintage" section. It's very interesting and impressive to go there and read the company's history and to look at all the gorgeous bags and purses. I really would love to keep this one for myself, but I'm a purse-a-holic, and so I'm reluctantly letting this one go tosome very lucky person.
