Vintage Mardi Gras Czech Glass Beads W/tag #6 For Sale
Vintage strand of Czechoslovakian glass beads thrown from the floats during the Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans probably from
the 1920s - 1930s. Bright colors and unusual shapes were typical of the times.
This necklace appears to be sturdy, but if you were
to wear it, I would suggest having it restrung. Still has original clasp and "Made In Czechslovakia" tag.
The country was famous for their bead making skills and glass work. In 1939 upon the Nazi occupation of Czechslovakia, these
wonderful beads all but disappeared. Most factories, along with the glass and molds, were abandoned by the owners who, if they
were able to, fled the country. Upon the end of the war, the Soviet occupation took over the factories producing utilitarian goods.
Objects of art were no longer manufactured. Currently, the original molds are being rediscovered and repaired to bring back days
gone by of the celebration of glass.
Please view the photos as they are part of the description. Thanks!
