$165.00

Up for sale are these four Matchless Star Wonder Star lights that have nine faceted glass prisms with a center glass jewel.  They all work and are beautiful.  From the research I have done, the bulb is C-6.  The light itself measures 1  15/16\" and on the back it says...Matchless   Made in U.S.A.   Pat. Pending.   There are two red with a blue center, one green with a red center, and one gold with a blue center.

Matchless Stars were used in several pinball machines produced by Exhibit Supply Company in the very late 1930s and early 40s and I believe these were for one of them.  My father operated jukeboxes and there were probably pinball machines located in the same establishments as his jukeboxes.  The base does not screw in but has a couple of little nubs on the sides of the base which further leads me to believe it is from a pinball machine.

Please look at all the pictures above as there is an ad showing Exhibit Supply Company’s Avalon model, featuring 17 Matchless stars as the bumper lights. The ad describes the game as \"the most gorgeous, most beautiful, most brilliant game in all the world!\' and is dated July 29, 1939.  Other models of machines using the Stars were named Airliner, Flash and Contact. From what I have read, Matchless Stars that were used in the pinball machines have unusual bakelite backs that screw off, enabling the bulbs within to be changed easily.   However, I have not tried this as I did not want to do any damage to the light.

Although the exact production dates are unknown, it is assumed that the Matchless Electric Co. of Chicago made and sold these glass-prismed Christmas Lights starting in about 1935 and continued through the late 1940\'s.  They were available in several sizes and many color combinations, and the glass points were made and hand cut in Czechoslovakia.  The lights were assembled and boxed in the United States.

Shipping to the lower 48 states only.
