Vintage Paul Lobel Mid Century Modern Sterling Silver Earrings, Abstract, Cool :
Fabulous Vintage Mid Century Modern Sterling Silver Screw Back Earrings by Modernist Silversmith PAUL LOBEL. (1899-1983) These abstract earrings are in good vintage condition, with some surface scratches. I did not polish them, that's up to you. They are stamped on the bottom back "Lobel, Sterling" and on the ends of the screw backs they are also marked "Sterling". They measure 1 5/8" in length, including the screw back part and are about 1/2" wide. They weigh 6.4 grams. In Paul Lobel's lengthy career, he worked in so many different mediums, it's hard to fathom. He was a radio operator after WW1, a commercial artist, painter, and a metal, glass, wood, and plastic designer/artist. After seeing an Exposition of Modern Arts in Paris in 1925, he became interested in Modern metal design and was one of the first jewelers to open a studio/shop in New York's Greenwich Village. He is considered one of the best in Modern jewelry design, with a simple abstract style that often included flat pieces of silver, accented with gracefully bent silver wire lines, just like these earrings. If you only own one pair of earrings in your lifetime, they should be these beauties by Paul Lobel! They are thoroughly Modern marvelous!
