Vintage Pastel 1928 Signed Jewish Artist Selma Weil Austria Judaica Art Girl :
Unframed, Signed, Original pastel, of Artist Selma Weil when she 8 years old in 1928. Free shipping in the Continental USA. I cannot make out the spelling of the artist of the pastel. Overall size is 27.25" x 21". There is damage to the board, but not to the drawing on the top where a mat had been stuck and pulled away leaving some of the mat stuck. There is NO damage to the actual pastel. I have a note that Selma Weil (the subject of the drawing) was "born in Vienna, Austria, a third generation artist, she studied music and painting at an early age. A top student at the College of Fine Arts in Vienna, she designed stage costumes for the famous REINHARDT THEATRE. Won several awards for original designs in cards and stuffed toys. In London she worked as a fashion artist and designed textiles for the mills in Lancashire. Came to the USA in 1955 where she continued her painting at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She showed her paintings in Vienna, London, Boston, and Buenos Aires. Her work was prominent in figurative and abstract. She lived from March 24, 1920 to July 5, 2011. She died in Laguna Woods, CA at the age of 91. I bought this drawing of her at her estate sale after her death.
