Pre owned, 1960\'s PENN fishing reel, good working condition,bakelite is good on both sides and handle, will need detailcleaning and lubrication, hard to find green handle model.
The specs for the Penn Model 78 Sea Scamp were gear ratio 3:1,spool capacity 38 lb line, 200 yrds.
Economy reels for both fresh and salt water. The least expensive yet most serviceable reels available at their price range. Even at the lowprice for each reel, all exposed metal parts were made of solid brass andbuilt for long use. These reels were used for salt water bottom fishing,pier fishing as well as fishing in fresh water ponds, lakes, streamsand rivers.The Penn #78 Sea Scamp was similar to the #79 Sea Mate but provided a smaller capacity.(1968 Penn Catalog).
With no series name, these reels were simply called the economy reels forgeneralfishing. Models in this series were the 77 Sea Hawk, the 78 Sea Scampand the 79Sea Mate. All were manufactured in the 1950 and thanks to theirpopularity theseries remained around for a long time. It wasn\'t until the late 1980\'sthat Penn discontinued these reels.
