Vintage Rare F. Vom Hofe & Son Brass Casting Reel W/ball Handle, 2:1 Multiplier:
Up for offer is oneVintage Brass Multiplier Casting Reel with Ball Handle, Threaded Bearing Cap, and 2:1 geared multiplier. I'm not sure how to classify this reel, based on the size of the foot I would guess it would have been used for salt water fishing or perhaps large fresh water species. There is no Clicker or Drag. The front cover is marked "F. VOM HOFE & SON, MAKER". This reel is constructed of brass. It is in good working condition. Thehandle is missing the wood knob. The foot appears to be machined from one piece of brass. This is a nice looking and nice working little reel with exception of the missing knob. It appears free of scratches and any signs of use. The bearing cap does have a very small ding. From what I've been able to find on the internet, Frederick Vom Hofe became partners with his son Julius in 1860 and remained making reels until 1882 when he retired, thus this reel would have been made within that time span when the reels they produced were marked as this one is.
It measures 3-3/8" diameter, 5" deep including the handle, pillars are about 2-3/16" long, and has a foot measuring 3-3/8" long by 13/16" wide. The foot is marked on the bottom with what looks like "0.0" (see photo). It weighs 1 pound 4.8 ounces, with packaging it will ship below 2 pounds. I combine shipping and pass the savings on, so please view my other items. Thank you for looking.
