BluesVintage Guitars Inc. of Nashville, Tennessee is proud to offer yet anotherMartin classic – a very nice and rare example of a “war-time” 1942 Martin000-21. Less than 100 pieces of this classic model were made in 1942 while TheUnited States was fighting World War II in Europe, and here’s one of the goodones.

This acousticis a monster! Its overall tone and playability is off the charts, and itsBrazilian Rosewood back and sides matched with Herringbone rosette and backstripe make it one of the world’s most coveted stringed instruments. Martindebuted the very first 000-21 in 1902 in a 12-fret configuration, but then redesignedit in 1932 to its current 14-fret “Orchestra”-style body design. It has sincebecome one Martin’s most popular models.

Thisincredible acoustic is in VERY GOOD condition overall, showing obvious signs ofuse and wear (think CHARACTER!). But it shows obvious signs of use and wear because this acousticis a pleasure to play. All great guitars show obvious signs of use and wear, and this one is no different. This one did not sit in a case in someone’scloset, rather it was played because it is a joy to play, just as it is today. Thetone that emanates from the body of this acoustic is the exact legendary tone thatMartin is so famous for. Its solid bookmatched Brazilian Rosewood back andsides give it all the warmth you’d expect from this classic-era Martin design.Matched with a magnificent solid Sitka Spruce top with scalloped X-bracing and you getall the robust and evenly balanced projection of a vintage and very desirableMartin acoustic. It’s all here … dark tortoise pickguard, pearl slotted diamondfingerboard inlays, and – of course – true Herringbone trim on the soundhole rosetteand back stripe.

As wesaid before, the back, sides and headplate are all constructed from genuine BrazilianRosewood. The grain on the back is very even, straight and and justd downright elegant, while the Sitka Spruce top has darkened to a golden yellow hue that isbeyond comparison. The neck is a solid piece of Honduran Mahogany, topped witha solid Ebony fingerboard. The back of the neck probably shows the most wear onthe guitar, but its slight V profile is what makes it a pleasure to play. Itwill fit in just about anyone’s hand perfectly. The nut width is 1-11/16” andthe scale length is 24.9”.

Theacoustic appears to have had an older neck reset, which is holding up justfine. The action is low, with absolutely no buzzing anywhere up or down the entire neck. The guitar needs nothing but a new owner! Cosmetically, the top showssome heavy pick marks along the edges of the soundhole and along treble side ofthe pickguard, along with one very minor repaired crack that runsparallel to the Spruce grain along the very bottom of the pickguard. There are alsosome light pick marks on the upper bout area where the end of the neck issitting on the body. Additionally, the pickguard does appear to be original, though it has shrunk a bit and a tiny piece of the corner nearest the fingerboard is missing. There are some light surface scratches in several places along its sides, although nothing appears to have penetrated through to the inside of theguitar. The back also has some light surface marks and scratches as well, butoverall the finish is intact and shows off the gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood grainvery nicely!

Non-originalparts currently on the guitar include replacement open back tuners from eitherthe late 1950s or 1960s, and a replacement bridge made of Rosewoodwith a newer saddle and newer bridge pins. The bone nutcurrently on the acoustic appears also to be new, and the guitar is missing itsend pin strap button.

Butagain, this Martin is all about its tone and playability. It just doesn’t getmuch better than war-time Martin … and ESPECIALLY a 000-21 model from 1942

Thisclassic Martin comes housed in a non-original black hardshell case that fits itnice and snug.
