It is one thing to buy estates when you are in the antiques and art “business,” but it is quite different when one purchases an estate from the heirs of a dear old friend. Such is the case with this and several pieces I’ll be listing as I’m able to block out old memories and present the pieces without including overly emotional asides.
Pay no attention to the blue tint in some of my images. The work is white as white can be. My camera has a grudge against me today.
My friend traveled the world, putting down temporary roots whenever the mood struck her. She lived at the Hotel Carlyle for a short time during the late 60s or early 70s, so I would assume that is when she purchased this etching since the location is on the sticker on the back.
Overall = 18” by 15 ¼”
Etching with full margins = ~15” by ~11 ½”
Visible Image = 11” by 9”
Signed in the plate
CONDITION: The etching is clean, white and crisp. There is no glass. One corner of the brass frame lost its little doodad that held it together, which is no big deal, but I wanted to mention it anyway. The backing between the etching and the cardboard backing consists of a full piece of acid free board as well as a loose sheet of white, acid free paper. Overall, I’d call it “fine.”
More images and commentary continue below my three "Prime Directives:"
1st: I never, under any circumstances, use a reserve, and rarely do I ask for an opening offer of more than $9.00 (sometimes even less).
2nd: I never end sales early.
3rd: I don’t usually clean, repair, or otherwise monkey around with anything. I push enough dust aside to expose any flaws, but if I discovered it in some dusty attic, you can look forward to a little dust on it when it gets to your house. If it has a flaw or a wart, I'll tell you about it.
So rest easy and have some fun.
That is the missing doodad I mentioned earlier.
My preferred method of payment is PayPal.
