HERE IS A GREAT PIECE OF ART -- A MODEL OF THE SHAMROCK V, THE V-BOAT BUILT IN 1930 BY SIR THOMAS LIPTON OF LIPTON TEA FAME. THE MODEL IS ATTACHED TO A WOODEN PLAQUE WHICH IS CIRCLED WITH ROPE. THERE IS A PLATE WITH THE NAME, "SHAMROCK V."
THE BACK IS SIGNED, "Carl A Balestracci, Jr. July 1980 Guilford, Connecticut."
The overall size is approximately 31" x 11" x 5". The dimensions of the boat are 21" x 4-1/4" x 2-1/2". It weighs about 9 pounds.
THE WOODEN PLAQUE THAT THE BOAT IS ANCHORED ON IS HARDWOOD -- MAY BE MAHOGANY, BUT I'M NOT SURE.
CONDITION IS GREAT. IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN HANGING ON A WALL ALL THESE YEARS.
SOME INFORMATION ON THE SHAMROCK V -- During the 1930's the Americas Cup races in Newport were dominated by enormous J-class boats. Sir Thomas Lipton built Shamrock V as one of the first boats in this class. Shamrock V is hailed for her beauitful classic hull design. In 1988, she was purchased and restored by the Museum of Yachting at Newport, Rhode Island. She was restored to her original racing trim. In 1998 she was purchased by a private owner in Aukland, New Zeland.
THIS WOULD MAKE A GREAT DECORATOR ITEM IN A ROOM WITH A NAUTICAL THEME -- IN THE HOME, SHOP, OR RESTAURANT.
