Vintage Signed Kay Finch California Pottery 17\"T Circus Elephant Violet Ceramic:
$550.00

Offered is perhaps one of the rarest and most sought after of Kay Finch California Ceramic Art Pottery figurines. It is titled \"Violet the Queen of the Circus\" and I believe it to be the largest-sized figurine that she produced. This piece dates from the 1940\'s - 1950\'s and is the elephant that is on the cover of the great Kay Finch reference and price guide that was written by Mike Nickel and Cindy Horvath back in the 1990\'s. Kay Finch was creating her art in Corona Del Mar, California from 1939 - 1963. This elephant is approximately 15.5\" long, 17\" high, and 8\" wide. The coloring of the elephant ranges from its creamy-pink body to its darker teal and blue saddle. The front of her ears have a medium pink ground along with pink, blue, teal, and purple flowers. She has a yellow head covering on top and dark green toe nails below. As far as condition is concerned, there are a couple of chips that have occurred to her throughout her life, which appear to have been colored in an attempt to conceal them by a previous owner of the piece. Two of her blanket tassels have had their pointed tips chipped off and are subsequently missing. These chipped tassels are located in the rear of the elephant and are captured in the last of the close-ups. It is just the tips of the tassels that are chipped off, not the whole tassel. There are also two other flakes in the blue glaze on the raised, high relief part of its saddle/blanket, also in the rear of the elephant. They are hard to discover when looking at the piece, as I missed them the first two times that I inspected the elephant. These flakes are also captured in the close-up photos. There is also general crazing in the glaze which is evenly distributed along most of the elephant\'s surface, as well as some blotchy pink glaze that appears to have run onto her back-right leg, but this isn\'t dramatically noticeable. That is the extent of the damage/issues, two chipped tassel tips and two glaze flakes on the rear of the piece, all of which seem to have been re-tinted for concealment purposes, along with the pink glaze blotchiness and overall glaze crazing. The piece has the K. Finch stamp on its underside. It is a large art piece and a great elephant, that makes you smile when gazing upon her. Please review all of the photographs for additional condition reporting, as they are integral to the description. Please view the close-ups which capture the two tassel chips and crazing in the glaze. Thank you for viewing this listing.
