Vintage Simco 16" Western Pleasure/trail Saddle, Antique, Vgc:
This is a nice early Simco saddle, maker marked on the seat, and showing their famous 6 petaldaisy throughout the tooling on the saddle, and, as always, in the center of the horn.
The saddle is in very good condition for its age. There is some inconsistency in the color, particularly on the jockeys which are darker, but most of the saddle retains much of its original russet coloring. The stirrup leathers, which are quite long, are in very good condition, and adjust by means of a Blevins type of buckle. The stirrups are the original solid wood ones, and are in good usable condition, showing only minor cracks at the corners where the wood bends so severely.
The saddle has the Simco makers mark on the seat, and their famous six petaled daisy throughout the tooling, and the signature daisy on the center of the horn. The horn and tree are tight, no movement at all. The stitching all appears tight. There are some dings and marks on the saddle, probably less than most saddles this age would be expected to have. The rigging is very well made, and is very solid.
The fleece is very good, but does show some dark marks, probably transferred from the dye of the saddle pad that was used beneath it. Latigo strings are a little stiff, but have been conditioned, and are improving quickly. All of the saddle has been cleaned and treated with a conditioner, and thus may look a little shinier now than it will after it has all absorbed.
The saddle has round skirts, and they are only 24inches, making it very suitable for those shorter backed horses. The gullet is semi bars, maybe a hair under. the weight is 24 pounds.
