Additional historical information about Czech-made vintage perfume bottles:
These miniature glass perfume bottles have been manufactured since the second half of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century during the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the territory of former Czechoslovakia (present day Czech Republic). This elegant and historic art is still produced in the Czech Republic to this day in the same style. The bottles are adorned by intricate metal filigree wraps and decorated by quality glass rhinestones that mimic real gems.
The process of making these exquisite miniature bottles flourished during the early years of the twentieth century. Most antique perfume bottles, which were imported to the United States, were made during this period. Production of these perfume bottles are at present kept in limited rate and have become a favorite collector’s items as well as wonderful gifts.
These gorgeous handmade, jeweled filigree perfume bottles are produced in small sizes by traditional methods. Metal pressing of tombac (brass alloy) is used in decorating the bottles. This process originated and was implemented approximately in the second half of the nineteenth century and the early part of the twentieth century. These bottles were handmade and cultivated using traditional techniques and then galvanized by silver or gold and were lacquered with protective coating afterwards. Artificial gems that are cut from especially high quality colored glass are later adhered to the metal filigrees.
Nowadays, skilled Czech artisans make every effort to replicate the appearance and quality of the past by creating new models in limited quantities.
