This broadside is a proclamation by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, John A. Andrew, informing the people of Massachusetts that he with the consent of the Executive Council has appointed Thursday, the first day of June next to be observed as a day of humiliation and prayer throughout the Commonwealth in compliance with President Johnson's proclamation. This was to be done in recognition of the recent bereavement of the nation, the assassination of President Lincoln on April 14, 1865. The proclamation is dated May 5, 1865.
