DescriptionVintage Tin Battery Op Hoopy the Fishing Duck, Alps, Japan. ExiB. A nice vintage tinplate battery operated Hoopy the Fishing Duck, with magnetic rod, made by the Alps Co. of Japan in the 1950's. It comes with removeable tinplate pond, one tin plate fish and the original box. When batteries are inserted and the toy is switched on, the duck dips his rod into the pond hoping to catch a fish. He usually does, and the magnetic rod holds the fish on the line until it reaches the duck's left hand. This then cleverly takes the fish off the line and drops it into his basket (the fish then returns to the pond ready to be caught again). Pleased with himself, Hoopy quacks and he tries to catch another fish. His eyes also light. All in all, it is a very pleasing and clever action. The figures's body is plush covered and stands 10 inches tall, by 8 long and 5 inches wide. It takes 2 D size batteries. The battery compartment is clean and rust free. It is in excellent working condition with 2 faults - the eyes do not light up (could be a loose wire or the bulbs need replacing), and strangely the lid to the battery box is not attached. I think this must be a production fault because the 2 tinplate hinges which would allow it to be attached are not there and there is no sign that they ever were. Despite this, the lid can be held in place by the sliding catch and when the toy is placed down with the batteries inserted, it works fine. Other than this, the tinplate and plush are in great condition and the toy works as it should. Marked “Alps Made in Japan” on the tinplate base and on the box. Comes with the instruction leaflet and original box in fair to good condition (small hole in lid and other signs of wear). A great tinplate battery toy which does not turn up very often in such nice condition. Please see my other vintage battery toys listed.
