U S ARMY SPECIAL FORCES GREEN BERET EMBLEM

Foryour considerationis a stunning, vintage, cabachon. AWest German glass piece, etched and hand painted intaglio,of the United States Special Forces Green Beret emblem, in a gorgeousKelly greencolor. This cabachon is over 50 years old.The size is a 10mm by 12mm oblong glass cabachon. It isin great condition, a very clear Special Forces emblem done insilver relief etching and hand painted. It is set in a gold colored brass setting, andcomes complete with a hanging hook ready to put on your favorite chain to wear! The unusual backing for thispiece is a stunning and unbelievablyKelly green!!! VERY RARE.

My picture does not do this piece justice! It isso stricking and displays excellent workmanship, the kind not seen anymore. Eachsilver etched emblem has been individually and tediously hand painted. This is a georgeouspendantandis quite a conversation piece when worn.It isa perfect piece, something vintage and unusual, and something you don\'t see much of anymore. All of the vintage cabachons are extremely rare, but I have never seen thisUSAF piece before.

These cabachons were sometimes called intaglios, rosettes, reverse crystals or \"Cabs\". They date back to the 1940\'s and 1950\'s (maybe even the 30\'s!) and are extremely rare and highly collectible. These \"cabs\" or cabachons contain intaglio images or scenes. Each piece was hand painted into a reverse carved image. These amazing pieces of art were first manufactured during the Victorian era. Because they are so tiny and intricate it is difficult to manufacture them today. Current high manufacturing costs make producing these crystals cost prohibitive. As a result, these crystals have become sought after rarities and collectors items.

The UnitedStates Army Special Forces, known as the Green Berets because oftheir distinctive service headgear, are a special operations force tasked with fiveprimary missions: unconventionalwarfare (the original and most important mission of Special Forces), foreign internal defense, special reconnaissance, direct action, and counter-terrorism.The first two emphasize language, cultural, and training skills in working withforeign troops. Other duties include combat searchand rescue (CSAR), counter-narcotics, counter-proliferation, hostagerescue, humanitarian assistance, humanitarian demining, information operations, peacekeeping, psychological operations, security assistance, and manhunts; other components of the United States SpecialOperations Command (USSOCOM) or other U.S. government activities may alsospecialize in these secondary areas.[3]Many of their operational techniques are classified, but somenonfiction works[4]and doctrinal manuals are available.Insignia[edit]

SpecialForces distinctiveunit insignia

On a wreathof the colors (Argent and Sable), two arrows saltire-wise Argent – that is, twosilver arrows crossed with a dagger, also silver, above them, surrounded by ablack ribbon.

  • The beret crest is taken from the gold crossed arrow collar (branch) beret insignia of the First Special Service Force, an American-Canadian commando unit organized in 1942 for World War II. The crest was changed to silver to create visual harmony with the shield, as well as to make a difference from the collar insignia.[citation needed]
  • A silver color metal and enamel device 11⁄8 inches (2.9cm) in height consisting of a pair of silver arrows in saltire, points up and surmounted at their junction by a silver dagger with black handle point up; all over and between a black motto scroll arcing to base and inscribed \"DE OPPRESSO LIBER\" in silver letters. The motto, De oppresso liber, is traditionally but incorrectly thought to mean \"To Free the Oppressed\". Its actual translation is uncertain.

Thisdistinctive unit insignia was approved on 8 July 1960. The insignia of the 1stSpecial Forces was authorized to be worn by enlisted personnel of the U.S. ArmySpecial Forces Command (Airborne) and its subordinate units since at least1965.

Anything available now has survived over the years and is not a new item.

These are real collectors items...don\'t let thisone get away. It\'s truly amazing.

I am happy to combine shipping for up to 7 days and can usually ship 3 or 4 pieces for the original shipping fees.

IMPORTANT….

The Post Office now charges $2.54 for postage per a 1 ounce package. Then you need to add in the tracking fee. The cost of my bubble envelope, the cost of wrapping supplies, paper, more bubble wrap, tape, printer ink, etc. really adds up…and it is not free, I have to pay for it. This packaging is necessary to make sure these glass pieces arrive in one piece and undamaged. My wrapping has evolved over the years, as the Post Office pays no attention to a package marked fragile! This does not include any money for my time, or the price of gas to and from the Post Office.

Also, what no one is aware of.../paypal now takes 9% of the shipping fees right off of the top as part of their charges.

I MAKE NO MONEY ON SHIPPING…..IN FACT, I DON’T EVEN BREAK EVEN.

PLEASE BEFORE YOU DOWNGRADE ME ON SHIPPING COSTS BE AWARE OF WHAT POSTAGE NOW REALLY COSTS. Thank you.
