Vintage Violin Marked With Josef Guarnerius Label, Tourte Bow, & Case:
Well, here is one of those things I bought purely on speculation at a local estate sale because I know almost NOTHING about violins or other stringed instruments. So, if you have questions, feel free to ask. In the meantime, here is what I can tell you about this violin:
There is a label on the inside that among other things says “Josef Guarnerius” and it has a bow-shaped trademark that has an “R” and “L” inside it (see photos). There is also some additional verbiage that seems to say “Made by R__ & ?” (again, see the photo, but I don’t quite know what the first word is and the other one is covered up by a later-applied paper tag that has a handwritten number on it);
overall length of the violin is 23.5 inches and at its widest point it is right at 8 inches;
the wood has a reddish cast to it;
I find no cracks (some nicks and wear here and there, but nothing too bad – see photos);
missing the bridge and one string;
the neck seems straight and again I find no cracks or stress where it attaches to the body;
the bow is missing about half of its strings, “Tourte” is stamped into the handle, there are mother of pearl inserts on each side (dots) and a mother of pearl rectangular insert on the bottom, it is about 29 inches long, and the silver colored metal piece on the end turns and tightens up the strings of the bow;
the case is solid with good hinges and clasps (the key is even included and the lock works), but there is quite a bit of wear on it with some of the skin peeled and/or worn off – but not terrible for its age.
Again, please take a look at the photos and let me know if you have questions. Overall this is a very nice condition vintage violin, but I don’t know a thing about its level of quality, and I have no idea how to play it for testing purposes.
NOTE: If this happens to be one of those instances where the bow is worth more than the violin and all the winning buyer wants is the bow, of course I am glad to keep the violin and case and only send the bow in order to save you on postage.

DOMESTIC SHIPPING: For shipments within the US I will probably get you a quote for Priority Mail and Parcel Select (and/or First Class or Media Mail if applicable), but let me know if you prefer some other type of shipping and I‘ll do my best. I always reserve the right to require a Delivery Confirmation be included in your final price.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: On international orders I will probably quote First Class Mail and/or Priority Mail (keeping in mind First Class cannot be used if the weight is over 4 pounds or it exceeds certain size limits). Because of 's changes telling sellers they have to take PayPal, on International orders I also ALWAYS reserve the right to REQUIRE an item to be sent by Priority Mail so that I can purchase indemnity to cover myself on higher ticket items (that is because you can't insure International First Class and of course PayPal won't confirm international accounts).
HANDLING CHARGES: The cost of mailing materials keeps going up, and I package things well (see my response). So, to cover some of these every-increasing costs, and as allows in its rules, I must now include an additional $1.00 "handling charge" on all sales to defray my expenses.
PAYMENT and KANSAS SALES TAX: Per 's policy, in my ad I can only ask for payment via PayPal (I have no way to accept credit cards directly). On sales to Kansas residents I will have to collect applicable sales tax.
CUSTOMS DECLARATION, DUTIES, TARIFFS, ETC.:
Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges.These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to offerding/buying.
These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional shipping charges.
We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as "gifts" - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.
RETURNS: Everything I sell is purchased at estate sales, sales, and other sales, and I am NOT an expert on anything that I sell. So, EVERYTHING is sold AS IS. In some cases I will consider accepting return of an item, but that is in my discretion (but as you can see by my response, I have always been fair to everyone I deal with, so please offer with confidence). I didn't used to follow this "as is" policy, but due to a growing number of purchasers who are scammers, and with taking away a seller's ability to leave negative response for a bad buyer, some buyers don't have any incentive to play fairly. So, those few dishonest buyers and 's rule have forced me into this policy.
MISC: I DON'T END sales EARLY, and if I didn't list it as a "Buy It Now" item then I don't intend to offer it that way, so there is no reason to ask.
If has some sort of problem during this sale, I reserve the right to cancel the sale and re-list the item.
If there are props or such in the photo, they are not included in the sale (rulers, display shelves, coins to show size, mannequin heads, etc.).
I leave response AFTER the buyer leaves response.
I don't use 's checkout and notification system, so you won't be able to look on there and see if I have marked something as "Paid", "Shipped" etc. If the item has a tracking number or customs declaration number and you want it, just let me know and I'll be glad to send it to you.
Last of all, this is a second job for me, and I have a “real” job during the day, as well as a family, so I will get back to you as quickly as I can. So, it is a good idea to not wait until the last minute to contact me with questions.
