Up here is a vintage Waterman\'s Ideal 18KT GOLD FILLED Overlay FOUNTAIN PEN, Model number 0552-1/2V fountain pen, which was manufactured in USA circa 1910s. This Waterman\'s is a fine example, in stunning hand engraved etched vine floral overlay pattern. It is NOT personalized. On the barrel there is an empty space for the owner\'s name engraving, but the pen is highly collectible as it is not personalized. The pattern is crisp and very attractive. On the cap and barrel were \'WATERMAN\'S\' and \'MADE IN U.S.A.\' embossed . The pen bears a Waterman 14ct gold nib. A new sac has been fitted. The lever filling system is in perfect working order. The pen has been serviced and tested for its full functionality. This Waterman\'s is a classic elegance and has been produced to the highest standards of carftsmanship. STORY

The Waterman Pen Company was established in 1883 in New York City by Lewis Waterman. Waterman\'s improvement on basic pen design and aggressive marketing played a vital role in making the fountain pen a mass-market object. The essential novelty of Waterman\'s first fountain pens was the feed, for which his first pen-related patent was granted in 1884. By 1899, Lewis Waterman opened a factory in Montreal was was offering a variety of designs.

Waterman\'s opened subsidiaries in Europe to meet international demand. AWaterman Fountain pen won the Medal of Excellence at the 1900 Paris World Exposition. In 1901, upon Waterman\'s death, his nephew took the business overseas and increased sales to350,000 pens per year.

Waterman\'s fountain pen was extremely desirable. The Treaty of Versailles was signed using a solid gold Waterman pen, by Prime Minister David Lloyd George.
