This is an awesome midcentury modern headboard that has been in storage for many years. This vintage 1960s piece is from a bedroom set that is often misidentified as the Witco Oceanic line. Sometimes the Witco Oceana line ... sometimes Bassett ... sometimes Lane ... The credenza from this series was seen in Don Draper’s office in Mad Men. It is a compact design measuring 44”wide and 44” tall with beautiful deep carving on a door that opens to reveal two shelves. Hinges and closure magnets work perfectly. Large headboard panel is still upholstered in the original zebra skin under the black 1990s fabric. Red button lights up fiberglass panel for reading. A similar listing described it as “stunning tropical mahogany wood grain” so that sounds nice. Perfect for your guest room or put some shelves in the back and make into a tiki bar.
This is an unrestored piece that could easily be cleaned up and flipped or turned into a little weekend project. It needs to be cleaned and polished – condition is as shown. All the parts that show up top are presentable but the bottom part of the legs is pretty rough. Please see pictures and ask questions. It’s a neat piece that’s been compared to Philip Lloyd Powell, and maker Witco as the Oceanic or Oceana series. Similar pieces have been attributed to Paul Evans.
