Vintage sterling silver handcrafted silver concho belt consisting of nine oval conchos and a rectangular buckle strung on a 1” wide black leather strap. There is a random shaped blue/green natural turquoise stone set on each piece. I believe that the turquoise is from the Morenci mine in Arizona. The conchos have a scalloped border, circular drilled holes, geometric stamp work, and a chiseled faux braid around the center repousse (bump out) design. The buckle has similar designs, as well as a long s - shaped repousse design in each of the corners. The leather belt is labeled 34 on the back, so the belt should fit up to a 34” inch waist.
Excellent quality and very good condition on this ca. late 3rd quarter of the 1900’s concho belt, which is hallmarked “JHQ COCHITI” on the back of the buckle. It was made by famous deceased Cochiti Pueblo silversmith Joe H. Quintana. Jewelry made by Joe is HIGHLY collectible! This is the first concho belt that I have found by JHQ that has turquoise stones. VERY reasonable reserve for this museum piece.
JOE H. QUINTANA!
