Virginia Metalcrafters Rare 1949 Brass Lily Pad Leaf Tray Signed Oskar Jw Hansen:
This is a solid brass rare LILY PAD leaf tray by Virginia Metalcrafters.
The design number is 3-20.
This leaf is one of the oldest and rarest leaves. It carries the designer / maker's initials on the front of the leaf along with the copyright mark. Oskar Hansen's initials are shown as l-O-l an H with the O inside the vertical bars of the H. Also, Oskar J.W. Hansen's name appears on the back with his initials repeated.
The lettering on the back of the oldest pieces is etched, not raised.
Beautiful and intricate detail on the veins of the leaf. I have read that this almost flat leaf is harder to create, which may be why there are so few of them.
These older leaves did not carry the phrase "VA Metalcrafters", it does have VM sign, but V is very faint, and it was difficult to take good picture of it.
The tray measures about 5-1/8" wide, 5-1/2" long, and 1/2" high. It weighs about 15.5 ounces.
The back of the tray is marked as follows:
OSKAR J.W. HANSEN
All of which is class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial;">
It doesn'thave any dings, scratches or any other noticeable imperfections.
I did not clean or polish it, it has that nice vintage patina.
