This isa highly decorative and unusual figurine produced by Aelteste Volkstedt Thuringia in Germany. Estimated date of manufacture is the last quarter of the 19th Century.
The figure shows a cherub pushing a floral encrusted cart. It is superbly modelled with great detail and beautiful hand painted face and features. The cart has hand applied flowers and foliage in swags and these have been made superbly.
The figure displays superbly and has no obvious chips or cracks. However on close inspection I beleive one of the cherub's wings has been restored about half way up the wing and the other has a wing tip restored. There is also a suspicion that the little finger has also been retouched on the outstretched hand. These have been done well as you can see in the close up photos and as a result the appeal or display is not greatly affected. The applied flowers are also in remarkable condition given their vintage with only a couple of tiny misses which can only be seen on the closest of inspections. Please see the numerous photos for confirmation of condition of this wonderful piece.
