Vtg 1920's - 30's Victorian Japan Silver Jade Peking Glass Bookchain Necklace For Sale
Vtg 1920's - 30's Victorian Japan Silver Jade Peking Glass Bookchain Necklace
This sale is for a finely designed and unique, victorian influenced peking glass necklace, that is from the 1930's.This necklace, I think, has been put together from different parts - but it was done a long time ago - my guess is that it was done during the 1930's - 40's. The front of the necklace, the silver panels combined with the glass looks like they were together originally my guess is that they are from 1910's - 20's. The bookchain and clasp I think were added in a repair later - around the 1930's - 40's. The panels and the chain do not test positive for silver content but have a distinct and pretty patina that looks like sterling. The panels are beautifully designed in a raised and detailed Japanese influenced scene that is identical on either sized panels. The glass cabochons are made to simulate Jade with the central glass panel measuring 1.5" long and 5/8" wide. The glass is slightly domed in shape, has smooth and glossy surfaces, and they don't have any chips or cracks. There is a little bit of irregularity to the setting, it doesn't quite sit right, the panels are just slightly misshapen - nothing serious but it makes the necklace just a little bit off in alignment which is noticeable a bit as the piece is worn. The bookchain has some links that are slightly dented and misshapen but it is noticeable mainly as the piece is laid out and inspected. There is some solder and repair noticeable on the necklace, mainly at the back of the piece, but a little bit at the front by the clasp as well but the repairs are very secure and the necklace does not appear to be vulnerable it is sturdy. There is a little bit of bi-color metalwork on the panels but it shows up a little more brassy and gilt in the photos than it is in person. The silver has a nice patina and again looks very much like sterling. This piece is bold and frames the neck strikingly when worn. Overall this is a finely designed and unique, victorian influenced peking glass necklace, that is from the 1930's and is in good condition.
