This incredible necklace was apart of a large and impressive Chinese jade and gemstone collection I recently sold (you can see many of the other incredible necklaces in my sold listings). I\'m not exactly sure what kind of gemstone the beads are....I\'ve never seen anything like this. I believe it is some kind of variation of Tigers Eye, because you can see small areas of certain beads that catch the light and look just like tigers eye, but there is an incredible swirl of different colors like purple, brown, red, and white. I\'m obviously not a gemologist, but I tried to research these beads as much as I could and couldn\'t find anything. If someone happens to know what it is, feel free to message me! The filigree clasp is marked \"Silver\" and works great. Each bead is hand knotted on string and in excellent condition. This is definitely a unique necklace to wear or add to any high end collection.

I have been informed by a very nice member that this stone is called \"PIETERSITE.\" It\'s definitely an interesting necklace, and I can\'t seem to find any Chinese necklaces like it. Here is a little information on the stone:

Pietersite is an opaque chalcedony or quartz stone, with a chemical composition of SiO2. It is a natural combination of tiger eye, jasper and hawk eye, giving it a strikingly unique and variable appearance with characteristicchatoyancyas you will find in pure tiger eye.
The stone was first discovered by Sid Pieters in 1962, on farmland in Namibia, Africa. There are currently only 2 known sources for it: Africa and China (and actually the Chinese variety is not officially recognized as true pietersite, because of its different composition. Its relative rarity can make it a more expensive semiprecious stone, which has only more recently been more widely utilized in jewelry work.
Pietersite can exhibit a variety of colors from brown to blue to red to gold, along with of course the tiger eye chatoyant sections. It looks beautiful when combined with onyx and turquoise in beadwork, and can look attractive in both gold and silver settings.
