Vtg. "cowboy Brand Big Horn " Mrkd Childs Pony Western Spotted Parade 12" Saddle:
This little pony saddle is marked "Cowboy Brand Big Horn" on one fender as seen in the 6th & 7th pictures. It also has the number 68 behind the cantle as seen in the 9th picture. This little saddle is 20" long and weighs 13 lbs. It's seat area measures 12", with the measurement taken from the base of the horn to the top inside edge of the cantle and I have shown how I measured it in picture #5.
The saddle has a little bit of age on it and it is used, but it's condition is nice. The leather is all flexible and the tooling stands out well. The only areas where I have noticed any missing little silver spots were on the fenders. The leftfender is missing nine little dots and the other fender is missing only one. The matching tapaderos are in really nice condition and they have all of their little spots. Most all of the little silver colored dots/spots have retained their silver coloring, but there are a few where the brassy color does show thru, mostly on the oneslying right underthe fenders.
The stirrup leathers are in nice usable condition, very goodfor a saddle of this age. They have only the slightest of shallow surface cracking of the leather in a few areas and I have shown one of the leathers in the 10th picture. The skirts, fenders and seat jockeys have some wrinkling of the leather, but really no crazing of the leather. There may be a few tiny little surface cracks here and there, but you have to lookvery closelyto find any. The hard seat has some slight mottling of the color andalso there are some dark stains on one side of the back section of the seat. Ihave tried toshow these variations in the color in the 11th picture. There is also a small dark round mark in the center of the back of the seat up by the rim and this can also be seen in the 11th picture. There is a dark stain on the left seat jockey as well. The four little leather straps that are used to tie upa front and backcinch are old and worn, but still seem usable. Both the structure and the leather of the horn are nice and tight, no movement.
Cute little older saddle that has been cleaned and conditioned -- all set to be used.
