This came out of a trunk from my Great Uncle and Aunt and has been packed away for 25+years, since they passed. I seem to remember this on a shelf in my Uncles home office and I think I asked about it when I was young. I would bet that he told me all about it and then I forgot whatever it was that he said. I do believe that he said they got it on one of their trips to Africa. But really they traveled all over the world and could have brought it back from anywhere. It is a beautiful handmade, gourd with brass on the top and the bottom. It is polished on the outside and it looks like wood, but you can see that it is a gourd. Attached to the bass brass is a brass tube that is bent, which has a hole in the end and at the back of the gourd up by the bell hanging. All of that is tied together with twisted brass wire, which has a circle, a bell and a brass stick hanging off of it. I am sure that my Uncle told me the symbolism of the items, but I didn't listen that well. Sorry. I have looked and looked and have not found another item like it. I am calling it a souvineer pipe. I think the photos are fairly clear, but if you have any questions please ask. Thank you for looking I hope you liked what you saw. Please put my store, “Generations of Stuff” on your favorites, because I am unpacking trunks everyday and listing items every night. All offers considered.
