Wonderful Antique 18th C 19th Forged Wrougt Iron Utensil Herb Rack Folk Art For Sale
28 3/4" Wide x 13" High 3 lbs. 8oz
A piece
such this would have been proudly hung on the wall of a period home to
support utensils such as spoons, skimmers, andspatulas,as well as
early lighting devices.
The
loops of period utensils would have been secured off the formed hooks,
while some items such as betty lamps with top hooks could be secured off
the ridges of the center bar.
As
you can see the piece was masterfully designed and constructed by a
period blacksmith. The smith chose to work in some design elements that
transform this piece from an otherwise utilitarian object into a true
work of folk art.
There is some pitting to the piece from as well as some slight
oxidation. Overall the piece is in very solid, very good+ condition.
Take a moment to examine the photographs and you'll see great signs of period rivet and forge marks great signs of old construction techniques.
A super
piece of period metalware that's certain to be a proud center piece of
any country decorum. The piece would look amazing holding a collection
of cooking utensils drying herbs and other period collectibles.
Up for a week with and a very low starting offer.
Please visit The Country Tin for more examples of metalware and Early American Country Furnishings.
