Wonderful Kralik Iridescent Inkwell With Owl Lid Loetz Era Circa 1890-1920:
A fine Kralik inkwell, From the Loetz era. Measures 4 7/8 inches across the pen rest, 2.5 inches high, 4,75 inches deep. Incredible iridescence, like mother of pearl or abalone shell. Has the original paper label on the bottom that says "Austria."
Letters on back of hinge GESCH, meaning patented. The glass is in excellent condition no chips or wear of any kind, there is very minor wear to metal on lid, comensurate with age. The lid would appear to be chrome electroplate on copper. Aclassic piece of late nineteenthor early twentieth century art glass. In more than twenty five years of collecting inkwells by Kralik, once thought to be Loetz, then Rindskopf, now we think these were made by Kralik... Of course that may change next month..... This is the only one I've ever seen with an owl face for a lid. It is truly a one of a kind piece. A major asset to any inkwell collection, and a great addition to a Loetz or Kralik collection.
