Wow 1890s Lehmann Tin Toy Mikado Family Chinese Japanese Rickshaw No Reserve For Sale
Up for sale is this rare tin toy ‘Mikado Family’
created in the late-1890s by (Ernst Paul) Lehmann. Depicts a Japanese driver
drawing a rickshaw, while wife sits w/baby in her arms. As early as 1894 Lehman
put his first Far Eastern product on the market with ‘Mikado Family’ (EPL No.
350). This is one of three versions, distinguished by color scheme of the retractable canopy. Woman is wearing a full blue dress, red hat and shoes, driver with
orange coat and hat, white pants, yellow shoes. Carriage is orange, canopy white,
interior yellow. Gold-colored floorboard bears a pair of pecking birds ahead of
woman’s feet. Bottom ID markings: ENGL PATENT, Fabrik Marke (w/logo), D. R.
GEBR. MUSTER, MADE IN GERMANY. Measures 6.5-in. (length), 5.25-in. (height),
2.25-in. (width). All “visible” items appear original and present, including
delicate, bundled baby. Driver’s legs move via a stair-step mechanism. Rickshaw
attaches to carriage via two straight rods w/pins. Wheels near perfectly round.
Axel & flywheel are operational, but DO NOT appear to be original issue.
Paint is original; driver’s coat, woman’s dress & carriage somewhat vivid,
but show signs of 120-plus year age w/generational loss (fading, some flaking).
Hand-painted faces still present; woman’s eyes, eyebrows, hair and red
lipstick; driver’s hair, eyes, eyebrows, mustache. A terrific addition for serious collectors of revered
Lehmann tin toys from the era! Open to International offers. PayPal is only
accepted payment method (due promptly after sale). There’s a $25.00 shipping
charge for U.S. destinations, $45 International. Insurance encouraged, to be
added to overall item/shipping total.
