Ww I Canadian Lewis Gunner Uniform Grouping - Identified – Rare For Sale
A World War One, Identified
Uniform and Equipment Grouping to a Canadian Lewis Gunner. An Exceptional
grouping to the same soldier with all pieces bearing identification. Grouping
consists of British 1907 Pattern Other Ranks, Service Dress Tunic. Second pattern
rimmed edge Brodie helmet and Pattern 1908 webbing rig as worn by a Lewis
Gunner on the Western Front. All pieces show normal and natural, even wear.
Excellent when displayed together!
British
1907 Pattern Other Ranks, Service Dress Tunic: Tunic shows normal service wear for a tunic that clearly was on the
Western Front. Buttons have been replaced with Canadian General Service ones. Two of them are a little smashed in. Metal CANADA shoulder titles to each
shoulder. Corporal Stripes to both arms with Lewis Gunner qualification badge
above. Metal wound stripe to left cuff and 3 Blue Service stripes to right cuff
(has become loose at some point and is attached with a pin). There are a few
scattered moth nips and wear points. The most noticeable area is a stain on the
center chest area. On the underside of one of the pocket linings a
service number (18337) and a name are written. The name is a little difficult to read (HAD
Mille?). The service number is written again on another small area of the
lining. Overall, a Very Nice displayable tunic that was over there.
British 2nd
Pattern Rimmed Brodie Helmet: Helmet is in Good, used condition with various dents and dings to surface. Marked
FS147 to inside of brim. Chinstrap is brittle and has become broken at one point.
Liner with rubber donut is complete and attached. What appears to be a name is
written in ink on the inside of the chinstrap (A A?RD). This helmet came with
the other items in this grouping and most definitely belonged to the same
soldier.
1908 Pattern
Webbing Rig: Web set
comprises Belt - 2 Braces - Leather, Open topped Webley Revolver holster -
Leather Pistol Ammunition Pouch and Bayonet Frog. Webbing shows normal field
use (some mild staining to web and tarnish to brass) and has been lightly blancoed.
Leather items are worn but, still supple. The stand out piece here is the
Leather, open topped holster. A very difficult item to come by. It is in very
nice shape and still retains its metal cleaning rod. There are wartime dates
along with the WD Broad Arrow on a number of the web items. The belt and
bayonet frog are clearly dated 1918 and there are more hard to read stamps on
the other items. Some type of identification number has been painted on the
inside of one of the braces. It is almost the exact same as his service number
with only one number appearing to be different. Not sure as to why but, this
set clearly was associated with him.
This grouping to a corporal in
the Canadian Expeditionary Force is an awesome window to that history. Almost
complete groupings to other ranks soldiers are not seen too often anymore and
will be even less with the Centennial quickly approaching. Here is your
opportunity to not only gain an Impressive Historical Display but, a great
investment as well. Guaranteed Original.
