AWW1 German 1898/05 "Butcher Blade" bayonet manufactured by Anker-Werke of Bielefeld. The bayonet and scabbard remain in very good condition and would I feel please any buyer that was looking to add to their collection. I hope the description is adequate, should you require any further information and/or pictures please just let me know.
The bayonet measures 19 5/8"" long, with a broad fullered blade just under 14 3/4". The pommel and crosspiece are both in sound condition; though do show signs of age and wear with a slight dulling to the finish. To the top of the handles is a flashguard, which again shows age and wear and a degree of smoothing. The press stud moves easily and retains its spring. The two piece grooved wooden grips are complete and free of cracks and chips, though there are some surface marks indicative of service use. The blade is in very good clean condition with the ricasso bearing the makers name Anker-Werke Bielefeld, with the trademark in-between.To the flat top edge is an inspection mark, though worn. While the pommel bears a gothic M under a crown. A fingernail run along the blades edge reveals no damage.
The bayonet is complete with a polished steel scabbard which is very good clean condition, though does have some surface marks indicative of age and wear. Entry and exit to the scabbard is both smooth and secure.
