World War 1 medal Pair and Military Medal group to Charles James Lewington mounted on original bar for wear.MM correctly named to 393169 Pte C J Lewington 15/Lond R - Civil Service Rifles
Pair correctly named to 4173 Pte C J Lewington 9-Lond R - Queen Victoria's RiflesMIC confirms entitlement to Pair and renumbering to 391369Original framed Military Medal certificate to Lewington dated 22nd October 1918. 47th London Division book that can be viewed online states his MM as being on 17th September 1918.
London Gazette dated 11th February 1919 confirms the following: 391369 Pte Lewington C.J. 15th Bn (Henley on Thames)Commonwealth Ward Graves confirms Serjeant Charles James Lewington MM a native of Henley on Thames was aged 49 when he was killed on 17th May 1942 whilst serving 27th County of London Battalion (Roehampton). Also confirms his service in World War 1and his MM - he is buried in Henley ( Holy Trinity) Chrurchyard. Confirmation of his death along with 2 other Home Guards was published in The Times on Tuesday 19th May 1942 - being killed by an explosion in Richmond ParkA most interesting group that I am at pains to part with. Condition is extremely good.
