Own A Pair Of The Originals&A Pice Of HistoryPlease read all of thediscriptionbefore offerdingA little History... Up for sale: a rare pair of 100% authentic WW2 B&L Aviator Pilot's sunglasses, made by the Bausch & Lomb Co. in Rochester NY. These are the original government issued aviator sunglasses for the USN and USAAF during WW2, model AN6531. Born in the mid 1930's these glasses were developed by the air force to accommodate the pilots during the 2nd world war. Since pilots were constantly looking down at their instrument panel while in flight, this necessity gave birth to the teardrop "aviator" shape lens. Bausch and Lomb was one of the few companies to be contracted by the US government to create these glasses. Bausch and Lomb then incorporated the new design to create the Ray Ban line of sunglasses. These glasses are considered the 1st generation of Bausch and Lomb "aviator" sunglasses, thus the birth of the "Ray Ban" line of sunglasses, and the creation of the "aviator" style of glasses we see today.Description of the glasses in the sale. These are they ultra rare Kalichrome AN6531-2 glasses. If youhaven'tseen them before its for a reason, they are very hard to find. Not many examples stillsurvive since there use as shooting glasses after the war gave them their fare share of abuse. These glasses are in very good to near mint condition. They are in wearing or display condition. The lenses on these glasses are made of dark Yellow rock glass and are thepioneered "Kalichrome type C Anti Glare" Bausch & Lomb lenses. The Bakelite sweat band and nose pads arecompletelyintact with some faint oxidation on the edges of the sweat brow. The glasses fit comfortably and can be worn for every day use. The frames are in good condition. They are straight and symmetrical, not appearing to require any manipulation for wearing and fit comfortably. They are strong and sturdy and retain 98% of their original nickeling. The temples arestraight and thehinges move freely and the screws are not mutilated. The Bakelite nose pads and sweat brow are an evencreamycarmel color and are free of cracks and are 100% intact. The lenses have NO chips, NO cracks, and No visible scratches. They are very clean. The frames under the brow support show the "Bausch & Lomb" trade mark. The reverse side of each nose pad has B&L markings. Overall length of the frames measuring from hinge to hinge is 5-1/2". The lenses measure 58mm across. The glasses come complete with their originalearly style hardcoated canvasreenforcedcase. The case has the original Bausch and Lomb trade mark stamped on the button. The case is in overall good condition opening and closing with a tight snap and having 100% of the original felt liner intact and very clean. The outer coating of the case is stiff from age and has some crackingthroughoutthe folding parts butdoesn'teffect the function or durability. The closing flap has some light fraying on either side of the edges but like the cracking theydon'teffect the function of the case since it is the photos) probably the best example of thesemi hard Militaryray ban case I have seen.
