Genuine, authentic, original hand signedWar photograph ofLuftwaffe Oberst Walter Oesau.

Oesau was a highly decorated German Air Force fighter Ace and wing commanderin WW2.

DuringWW2, Oesauwas best known as Commander of Jagdgeschwader 1 and Jagdgruppe 88 among other fighter wings during the Battle of France, Battle of Britain, Operation Barbarossa and the Defense of the Reich. Oesau had previous command fighter squadrons during the Spanish Civil War, and was awarded the Spanish Cross in Gold with Diamonds...one of only 28 soldiers to receive this high honor. During WW2, he is credited with 127 aerial victories in 300 combat missions. He was killed in action on May 11 1944!

Because of his military successes, he was awarded the German Cross, and also the Luftwaffe Front Flying Clasp in Gold with Pennant 300.

Because of his extreme personal bravery and successful military leadership in combat during WW2, Oesau was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords...one of only 143 soldiers tobe so honored during the War! He was also mentioned 5 times in the Wehrmachtbericht!...to be mentioned one time was a high honor!

The postcard size sepia printed photograph shows Oesau as a Luftwaffe Hauptmann and he has signed his full name and rankbelow his image in blue fountain pen ink, likely in 1941 when he held the rank of Hauptmann. The signed foto is in very good plus condition. Along with a modern unsigned print of Luftwaffe fighter pilots: Ihlefeld, Galland, Oesau and Schnell waiting outside at the Fuhrers headquarters in Rastenburg. Total: 2 items.
