This map is authenic and is in great condition. It would be an invaluable tool to any WWII archeologists planning digs etc.

For sale in this sale :- is an originalWW IIhand drawnMap of an area of coast and inlandSouth of Vannes in Brittany and the Bay of Biscay, along approximately a 6 kilometer section of beach which could have been a possible Allied Invasion point. This map was hand drawn as an inteligence aid for the Free French Forces of the Interior, (FFI), known to the rest of the world as "The French Resistance".

This map would have been invaluable to the Allied American, British, Canadian and French forces for the purpose of evaluating if this could have been a possible landing point. It measuires aprox. 77 Cms X 60 Cms, (30.5 X 24.5 inches).

The map could have been part of the intelligence gathering required for “Operation Bodyguard “which was the launching of an enormous deception campaign called Bodyguard, designed to make the Germans believe the invasion might come in Greece, on the Adriatic coast of Yugoslavia, in the south of France, on the Biscay Bay coast of France, through the Low Countries, or via Norway and Denmark. Or for Operation Anvil.

The map has a legend and scale which shows what the terrain was like and shows all the tank trap emplacements in and around the roads in the area. The legend also has artillery and observation points but I cannot find any of these marked on the map. Also the icon for the "Route For Tanks" (The French for Tank is "Char"), has not been included in the legend. This map is possibly unfinished or was a work in progress.

The mapwhich is on thick heavy paper has historic folds otherwise its in great condition.

Most of these sales of mine featuring items from the end of World War Two come from the collection of Major, (later Colonel), Commandant Jean Bouwens de Boijen, the Senior French Liaison Officer of the Displaced Persons Division, Allied Liaison Section, based at the Headquarters of the THIRD U.S. Army in Occupation of Germany at the end of World War Two. His job along with the American and British armies was to help locate, sometimes detain, provise aid, and finally try to repatriate all the POWs and other internees that the Germans had locked up in camps, including many from Concentration camps. The Major/Colonel was first attached to the United States Army on 29th September 1944 and stayed with them during the liberation of France and the eventual invasion and taking of Germany.
